The Rise & Fall Of FM/AM Radio

AM radio started way back on Christmas Eve in 1906. Then came FM radio in 1941. Music enthusiasts like myself have loved traditional radio over the years. Growing up, I would listen to both AM and FM stations and have a special love for them. It was truly fascinating to consider how an invisible radio signal could encode audio information, convert it into music, and travel through walls and most objects. While many still listen to traditional radio, it has struggled to maintain its once-strong relevance in the music world. In the face of rapid digitalization, changing listener habits, and the rise of streaming platforms, there has been a decline of listeners in recent years. Our street team has been out, and we ask the question, "When was the last time you listened to FM or AM radio?" The response we receive is, "I can't even remember; it's been years."

Technology is rapidly changing, leading to the rise of digital online radio stations. There are currently over 165,000 online stations globally. From music to talk to sports and to religious programming, the simple ability to listen to your favorite broadcast when and where you want has been a defining transformation in how we listen to radio today.

When was the last time you tuned in to your local FM/AM radio station?
