October is here!

When I think of October, the first thing that comes to mind is Michael Myers, pumpkins, ghosts, witches, and every creep imaginable. In addition to all the ghouls, spooky music dominates the music world. From private parties to public events, Halloween is one of the most celebrated holidays of the year. With it also comes the change in leaf colors, leaves falling from trees, and cooler weather. Fall is definitely my favorite season after spring.

Musically, there are so many songs that are generational hits that have been used to celebrate Halloween throughout the years. From Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghostbusters,"  Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me," and so many more have made this holiday all the more fun. Even in recent years, songs that are simply released have somehow made it to the Halloween playlists. A good example would be Kendrick Lamar's current megahit "Not Like Us." The lyrics at the beginning, "Psst, I see dead people," is one that will be used over and over again.

With the cooler weather, fall festivals, and the creepy monsters that have been a yearly tradition, the most enjoyable for many people, is the practice of trick-or-treating and dressing up in a costume while going house to house asking for treats. Most of the time candy is given, but at some point in history, not sure if many people still do, money is given! Imagine coming back home after an evening of trick or treating and going home with candy and money.

Whether candy, money, or simply staying home and handing out treats, Halloween is sure to be a tradition that will live on for generations to come.
